What is Istikhara for Marriage?
Istikhara means to seek goodness in some (lawful) matters from Almighty ALLAH and to pray him to ordain you the best and keep satisfied on his decision. Istikhara for marriage is specific to marriage. This is done when one is confused in taking his decision about marriage. It involves the process of performing voluntary salah, prayers and making supplications.
Why Istikhara for Marriage?
Marriage is an important step of one’s life. And it is always best and safe to seek consultation of Almighty ALLAH before starting your marriage life. Istikhara is done before many different task. Out of which Istikhara for marriage, love marriage and job are carried out by majority of people. So, in this we will be giving clarification regarding Istikhara for marriage.
Significance of Istikhara for Marriage
The one who does Istikhara in all his tasks never remains dispaired from the mercy of ALLAH. The significance of performing Istikhara is clear from many of the Sayings of our Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). It is narrated by Jabir (May ALLAH be pleased with), “The Messenger of ALLAH, used to teach us to do Istikhara in all matters as he used to teach us the chapters of the Holy Quran.
Signs of Istikhara
After performing Istikhara how to interpret results?
- If you see good things in your dream like Mosque, Kaba, Madina, White, Green pure substances, it is a good sign.
- If you see dirty things, it is a negative sign.
- It is not a must to see a dream or hear voice. Even if you did not see any dream, keep performing the Istikhara for the number of mentioned days. At the end, one of the decision becomes dominant in your heart. And whatever is good for you will happen.
How to do Istikhara for Marriage
Sunnah Method of Istikhara for Marriage
The sunnah method of performing the Istikhara for marriage is as follows. It is done at night before going to sleep.
- Ablution:
Perform fresh ablution (Wudu). - Isha Salah:
Offer your Isha salah. - Salat Al Istikhara:
Then offer 2 rakats of voluntary prayer. In the first rakat, after Surah Fatiha, recite Surat Al Kafiroon. In the second rakat recite Surat Al Ikhlas. - Durud:
Recite Durood e Shareef 11 times. - Recite the Dua e Istikhara
Then recite this Dua e Istikhara 11 times. - Visualization:
Keep visualization of your need when you reach the words “هَذَا الْأَمْرَ”. - Sleep
Without talking with others, go to your bed and sleep on your right side reciting “Ya Khabeeru“. - Maintain to become a practitioner
Continue it for at least 21 consecutive days for best results. If you do not have so much time, then 7 days. You may extend it to 110 days or 210 days to become a spiritual healer. - Ablution:
Conditions for Dua to be Effective
- Be Punctual with your 5 obligatory prayers and other compulsory deeds of Islam
- Stay away from forbidden things.
- Read Durood before and after every dua.
- Do not talk with people in between the wazifa. Maintain silence until you complete it.
- Do not make fun of the verses or duas.
- Practice it regularly. Better to perform it at a fixed place and time everyday.
- Take care of purity and cleanliness of yourself, your clothes and the place where you are reciting.
- Perform it with full concentration, dedication and faith in Almighty ALLAH.
- Do it for a legal purpose or wish with right intention.
- Ask forgiveness from ALLAH

Different Istikharas for Marriage
Perform each of the below mentioned wazifa for at least 7 days.
Quranic Istikhara for Marriage
Another Istikhara for Marriage is by enchanting the verse of chapter Al Baqarah. After Isha salah, and 2 rakats Salat Al Istikhara, read dua e Istikhara once, then invoke the following verse 511 times. Go to sleep without speaking to anyone.
قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ
Yaseen Istikhara for Marriage
In this practice, you need to recite
- Surah Fatiha and Surah Yaseen once after Salat Al Istikhara and dua e Istikhara.
- Recite یَا خَبِیْرُ Ya Khabeeru 700 times
- Then write یَا حَکِیْمُ یَا مَجِیْدُ Ya H’akeemu Ya Majeed on the palm of your right hand.
- Keep it below the cheek and sleep on your right side.
Ya A’leemu Istikhara for Marriage
If someone wants to know the result of some task and want to find out whether a particular task is good or bad then carry out this spiritual practice. Perform Salat Al Istikhara, read dua e Istikhara once, then recite “يا عليم” Ya A’leemu 1900 times. Go to bed without talking to anyone and sleep on your right side.
Powerful Istikhara for Marriage
Another powerful Istikhara to seek guidance and help from Almighty ALLAH with respect to knowing about the goodness or bad result of marriage with a particular person is this.
- Perform Salat Al Istikhara,
- Read dua e Istikhara once,
- Sit on your clean bed facing towards Kaba and invoke the following dua 555 times.
- Sleep without talking to others.
Concluding Istikhara for Marriage
All the wazaif and dua e Istikhara for marriage are free to use. Anyone could recite it with the right intention. It does not matter even if you are a beginner. By practising on it regularly you too can become a spiritual expert. The condition is you should stay away from sins. Be Punctual with your 5 obligatory prayers and other compulsory deeds of Islam.
