Chapter 30: Salah is a part of faith
Hadith 40

Hadith 40 Translation in English
It is narrated by Al-Bara bin Aazib (May ALLAH be pleased with) “When the Prophet ﷺ came to Al-Madina, he ﷺ stayed first with his ﷺ grandfather or maternal uncle from the Ansãr. He ﷺ offered his Salah (prayers) facing Bait ul Muqaddas (Masjid e Aqsa) for sixteen or seventeen months, but he ﷺ wished that he ﷺ could pray facing the Ka’bah (at Makkah). The first salah (prayer) which he ﷺ offered facing the Ka’bah was the Asr prayer in the Company of some people. Then one of those who had offered that Salah with him ﷺ came out and passed by some people in a mosque who were bowing during their Salah facing the Bait Al Muqaddas. He ﷺ said addressing them, “By Allah. I testify that I have offered Salah with Allah’s Messenger facing the Makkah (Kaaba) .” (Hearing that), those people changed their direction towards the Kaaba immediately. Jews and the people of the Scriptures used to be pleased to see (the Prophet) facing in the direction of Jerusalem in Salah but when he ﷺ changed his direction towards the Kabah, (during the salah), they disliked it.
Al-Bara added. “Before we changed our direction towards the Kaaba (at Makkah) in prayers, some Muslims expired or were martyred and we did not know what to say about them (regarding their prayers). Then Almighty ALLAH revealed: “And Allah would never waiste your faith” (prayers offered by them before facing the baitul muqaddas will not be waisted).

Hadith 38 Explanation in English
- In this hadith, it is evident that the Quranic verse can override the sunnah i.e., it is permissible to follow the Quranic command over Sunnah. Because praying facing the Masjid e Aqsa was proven from the Sunnah, which was later changed by the Quranic verse. Imam Abu Hanifa and the people are convinced of this. Imam Shafi’i and Imam Ahmad and Ahl al-Zahir in one narration are not convinced of this.
- Secondly, it is permissible to offer one prayer facing two sides in some situation. If a person finds out in the prayer that the Qiblah is actually in different direction, then he should face towards it.
- There is an evidence in this hadith that it is permissible to accept the the Khabar e wahid hadith (The hadith whose narrator is only one sincere muslim) and to follow it. Because on hearing the statement of a person who had prayed the Asr prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), the prayers of a different mosque in Madina changed their direction.
- It is also clear from this hadith that, it is permissible to perform ijtihad in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), because the worshipers in this mosque could also have gone to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to ask if the Qiblah has really changed or not? but they believed the information given by the person.
- It is also evident from this hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has a great status near Allah, because Almighty Allah changed the qiblah (direction of prayer) for him before his asking. And Almighty ALLAH said: “We will turn you towards the direction in which you are happy.”
Baab 30 : As-Salatu minal Iman
Is baab ki baab e saabiq ke saath munasibat is tarah hai keh saabiq baab mein subah aur sham yani din ke waqt mei aur raat ke kuch waqt mein ibadat karne ka hukum diya tha aur 5 namazein farz hain. Inme 4 namazein yani Fajr, Zohar, Asr aur Maghrib din ke waqt mein padhi jati hain aur isha ki namaz raat ke waqt padhi jati hai. Neiz isse pehle abwaab mein Roze ka zikr tha aur is baab mein namaz ka zikr hai. Aur namaz aur roza dono deen ke a’Zeem arkaan mein se hain.
Hadith 40

Hadith 40 Tarjuma Roman Urdu
Imam Bukhari riwayat karte hain keh hamein A’mr bin Khalid ne hadith bayan ki, inhone kaha: hamein Zaheer ne hadith bayan ki, inhone kaha, hamein Abu Ishaaq ne hadith bayan ki az Hazrat Abraa bin a’azib (Radiallahu a’nhu) se keh “Jab Nabi (ﷺ) ibteda Madine mein aaye toh aap Ansaar mein se apne nana ya mamu ke han thehre aur aap ne 16 mahine ya 17 mahine baitul muqaddas ki taraf muh karke namaz padhi. Aur apko yeh pasand tha keh apka qibla baitullah ho. Aur aapne baitullah ki taraf muh karke jo pehli namaz padhi, woh Asr ki namaz thi. Aur apke saath logon ne bhi namaz padhi. Phir ek shaks jis ne aap ke saath namaz padhi thi, woh bahar nikala aur ek masjid walon ke paas se guzra, us waqt woh log ruku mein the. Usne kaha, Mai ALLAH ko gawah banata hun, mai ne abhi RasoolALLAH (ﷺ) ke saath Makkah ki taraf muh karke namaz padhi hai. Tab log namaz mein hi ghum kar baitullah ki taraf phir gaye aur yahood aur ahle kitaab ko yeh pasand tha keh jab aap baitul muqaddas ki taraf muh karke namaz padhte the aur jab aap ne apna muh baitullah ki taraf karliya toh yeh unko nagawar huwa.”
Zaheer ne kaha, hamein Abu Ishaaq ne hadith bayan ki az Abraa unki is hadith mein yeh hai keh “Tehweel e Qibla se pehle kuch log faut hogaye aur kuch log shaheed hogaye. Phir humne khud se nahi jana keh hum unke mutalliq kya kahein toh ALLAH ta’la ne yeh aayat nazil farmayi: “ALLAH tumhare imaan ko zaaya nahi farmayega“.
[Sahih Bukhari, Jild 1, Kitab 2, Kitab Al Imaan, Baab 28, Hadith 40]
Tafsir o Tashreeh
- Is hadith mein yeh daleel hai keh sunnat ka Quran se nuskh jaiz hai kyunke baitul muqaddas ki taraf muh karke namaz padhna sunnat se sabit tha jisko Quran ne mansookh kardiya. Imam Abu Haneefa aur jamhoor iske qaayil hain. Imam Shafayi aur ek riwayat mein Imam Ahmed aur Ahle zahir iske qaayil nahi hain.
- Is mein yeh daleel hai keh ek namaz ko do taraf muh karke padhna jaiz hai. Agar kisi shaks ko namaz mein pata chal jaaye keh Qibla dosri tarah hai, toh woh us taraf mudhjaye.
- Is hadith mein daleel hai keh khabar e wahid ko qubul karna aur ispar amal karna jaiz hai, kyunke jis shaks ne Nabi (sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam) ke saath Asr ki namaz padhi thi, uske khabar dene se Madine ki dosri masjid ke namaziyon ne apna qibla tabdeel karliya.
- Is hadith mein Nabi (Sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam) ke hote huwe ijtehad karne ka jawaz hai kyunke us masjid ke namazi yeh bhi karsakte the keh namaz todkar Nabi (sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam) ke paas jaate keh Qibla tabdeel huwa hai ya nahi?
- Is hadith se yeh bhi maloom huwa keh ALLAH ta’ala ke nazdeek Nabi (sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam) ka bohat bada martaba hai kyunke ALLAH ta’ala ne aap ke suwal ke begair Baitullah ko aap ke liye Qibla bana diya aur farmaya: “Hum aap ko us qibley ki taraf pher denge jisme aapki khushi hai.”
