Hadith 44 in English
Chapter 33: Excess or Loss of Faith
Relation of this chapter is similar to the previous one. In the previous chapter it was stated that the most preferred worship in the sight of ALLAH is the one which is more lasting and this chapter mentions about the extent (more or less) of faith. And there is no doubt that when a person performs more acts of worship, his faith increases. And when he sins, his faith decreases in strength. And this is what Imam Bukhari wants to make clear. And this is according to the Hanafis as well. Because Hanafis say that deeds are not involved in the Faith itself. But deeds are a part of best faith.
Hadith 44 Translation
It is narrated by Anas (May ALLAH be pleased with) that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, “Whoever said La ilaaha ilallah…… (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah….) and has in his heart goodness (Faith) equal to the weight of a barley grain, will be taken out of Hell. And whoever said: La ilaaha ilallah…… and has in his heart goodness (Faith) equal to the weight of a wheat grain will be taken out of the Hell. And whoever said “La ilaaha ilallah…… ” and has in his heart goodness (Faith) equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant) will be taken out of the Hell.”
Hadith 44 Explanation & Tafsir
Meaning of Difficult Words
- In this hadith, the words “شَعِيرَةٍ” and “بُرَّةٍ” are used. “شَعِيرَةٍ” means a barley grain. ” بُرَّةٍ” means a wheat grain. And the word “ذَرَّةٍ” means a small ant. That dust which is equivalent to the hole of a needle which is visible in the sunlight. Hazrat Ibn e Abbas (May ALLAH be pleased with) said: When you sweep dust with your hand, the swept dust will be a particle ذَرَّةٍ. One saying is that 4 ذَرَّةٍ combine to form a small mustard seed. Shuaba has changed this word to “ذُرَۃٌ” instead. Which means a Millet grain.
- It is in this hadith, it is mentioned in whose heart there is goodness. Goodness here means faith, as Imam Bukhari has mentioned in Iban’s Tariq.
- In this hadith it is said that he who has faith equal to an atom in his heart will come out of Hell. The question is, how will the faith be weighed? The First answer is that the pages on which Imaan is written will be weighed. The second answer is that from scientific research point of view, it has become clear that science also weighs. The body or room temperature is also weighed. For example 29 degree celcius. When the instruments can detect and weigh the invisible sensible things how will it be any difficult for Allah to weigh the faith of a person?
- “La ilaha illallah” means the whole sentence, “La ilaha illallah Muhammad Rasoolullah”. And here only a part is mentioned and it refers to the entire. “La ilaha illallah” is the knowledge of the entire Kalima Tayyiba, just as “Qul Hawalahu Ahad” is the knowledge of Entire Surah Ikhlas. The meaning of believing in “La ilaha illallah” is: believing in Allah Almighty with all His attributes. And one of the attributes of Allah is that He made Mohammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) a Messenger.
- This hadith states that some believers will be thrown into hell. This refutes the belief of Marjia that no believer will be cast into Hell. And in this hadith it is also stated that they will be taken out of Hell. This is a refutation of Khawarij and MuaTazeela sects who say that the doer of Kabira sins will not be taken out of hell.
Hadith 44 in Roman Urdu
Baab 33: Imaan ki ziyadati aur uska nuqsan
Is baab ki baab e sabiq ke saath munasibat is tarah hai keh sabiqa baab mein yeh bayan kiya gaya tha keh ALLAH ta’ala ke nazdeek zyada pasandida ibadat woh hai jisme zyada dawam ho aur is baab mein imaan ki ziyadati aur nuqsan ka zikr hai. Aur isme koi shak nahi keh jab banda kisi ibadat ko dawam ke saath zyada karta hai toh uska imaan zyada hota hai. Aur jab woh iske dawam mein taqseer karta hai toh iska imaan kam hota hai. Aur yehi Imaam Bukhari ka matloob aur maqsood hai. Aur yeh Ahnaaf ke mutabiq hi hai. Kyunke Ahnaaf kehte hain keh Nafs-e-Imaan mein aamaal dakhil nahi hain. Aur iske Imam Bukhari bhi qayil hain. Aur Imaan-e-kamil mein aamaal dakhil hain.
Hadith 44 Tarjuma
Imam Bukhari riwaayat karte hain keh hamein Muslim bin Ibrahim ne hadith bayanki , woh kehte hain, hamein Hishaam ne hadith bayan ki, woh kehte hain hamein Qatada ne hadith bayan ki az Hazrat Anas (Radiallahu a’nhu) az Nabi (Sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam), aap ne farmaya: woh shaks dozakh se nikal aayega jisne “Laa ilaaha ilallah…….” kaha aur uske dil mein jaw ke barabar bhi neiki ho. Aur woh shaks dozakh se nikal aayega jisne “ Laa ilaaha ilallah…… “ kaha aur uske dil mein ek gamdhum ke barabar bhi neiki ho. Aur woh shaks dozakh se nikal aaayega jisne “ Laa ilaaha ilallah…… “ kaha aur uske dil mein ek jawar (ya zarra) ke barabar bhi neiki ho.
Hadith 44 Tafsir O Tashreeh
Mushkil alfaz ka mana
- Is hadith mein “شَعِيرَةٍ” aur “ بُرَّةٍ” ka lafz hai. “شَعِيرَةٍ” ka mana jawn hai. Aur “ بُرَّةٍ” ka mana gamdhum hai. Aur “ذَرَّةٍ” ka lafz hai iska mana hai: Choti chuiti aur iska mana hai: Sui ke naakey ke barabar woh ghubbar jo suraj ki sha’aa mein nazar aata hai. Hazrat Ibn e A’bbas (Radiallahu a’nhu) ne farmaya: Jab tum apne haath se gird jhado toh jo gird jhadegi, woh zarra hoga. Ek qaul yeh hai keh char zarron se milkar ek khardil (raayi ka dana) banta hai. Shuaba ne is lafz ko badal “ذُرَۃٌ” likha hai. Iska mana hai jawar ka dana.
- Is hadith mein hai, jiske dil mein zarra barabar khair ho. Khair se murad Imaan hai, jaisa keh Imam Bukhari ne abaan ki taleeq mein zikr kiya hai.
- Is hadith mein hai keh Jiske dil mein zarra ke barabar Imaan ho, woh dozakh se nikal aayega. Ispar yeh aitraaz hai keh Imaan ka wazan kis tarah kiya jayega? Iska Pehla jawab yeh hai keh iske aamaal ke jis safah mein Imaan likha hoga us safah ka wazan kiya jayega. Dosra jawab yeh hai keh ab science ki tehqeeq se waazey hochuka hai keh kaifiyaat ka bhi wazan hojata hai. Jism ya kamra ya fizaa mein jo darja e hararat ho uska bhi wazan kiya jata hai. Misaal ke taur par 29.4 darja e hararat hai. Jab aalaat se in kaifiyaat ka wazan hosakta hai toh ALLAH ta’la ke liye Imaan ka wazan karna kya mushkil hai?
- “ Laa ilaaha ilallah…… “ se murad poora kalma “ Laa ilaaha ilallahu Mohammadur RasoolALLAH “ hai. Aur yahan juzz ka zikr hai aur isse murad kul hai. “ Laa ilaaha ilallah…… “ poorey kalma tayyiba ka ilm hai jaise “Qul huwallahu ah’ad” surah ikhlas ka ilm hai. “ Laa ilaaha ilallah…… “par imaan ka mana hai: ALLAH ta’ala par iski tamam sifaat ke saath Imaan lana. Aur ALLAH ki ek sifat yeh hai keh woh sayyidina Mohammad (sallallahu a’laihi wa sallam) ko Rasool banane wala hai.
- Is hadith mein yeh tasreeh hai keh baaz Ahle Imaan ko dozakh mein dala jaayega. Isme Marjiya ke aqeeda ka rad hai keh kisi momin ko dozakh mein nahi dala jaayega. Aur is hadith mein yeh bhi tasreeh hai keh unko dozakh se nikal liya jaayega. Isme khwarij aur mua’tazila ka rad hai jo kehte hain keh murtakib e kabeera ko dozakh se nahi nikala jayega.
