Surah Baqarah Verse 11, 12, 13 Transliteration

11. وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ

12. أَلَآ إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ

13. وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ ءَامِنُوا۟ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلنَّاسُ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَعْلَمُونَ

Wa idha qeela lahum laa tufsidoo fil arDi qaalooo innamaa nah’nu muSlih’oon.  # Verse 11

Innahum humul mufsidoona wa laakil laa yashu’roon.  # Verse 12

Wa idha qeela lahum aaminoo kamaaa aamanan naasu qaalooo anu`minu kamaaa aamanassufahaaauo, alaaa innahum humus sufahaaauo wa laakil laa ya’lamoon.  # Verse 13

Surah Baqarah Verse 11, 12, 13 Translation

And when it is said to them, create not mischief on the earth, they say, “Nay, we are but reformists”. # Al Baqarah Verse 11

Beware! Surely, it is they who are the mischief-makers, but they perceive not. # Al Baqarah Verse 12

And when it is said to them, “Believe as others believed” they say; “Shall we believe as fools believe?” Beware it is they who are the fools, but they know not. # Al Baqarah Verse 13

Surah Baqarah Verse 11, 12, 13 Explanation

What was the hypocrisy of the hypocrites?

The mischief of the hypocrites was that used to extinguish the fire of war by contributing the secrets of the Muslims to the disbelievers, and awakening corruption on land. Because when a war takes place, green fields are wiped out, wealth is destroyed, cattles and humans are killed. Or their mischief was that they used to disobey ALLAH and take Islam as mockery. Due to this, there used to be blood shedding and corruption on the Earth. And since the hypocrites had a sickness in their hearts, they used to assume their mischievous deeds to be good and take pride in their arrogance.

Verse 13 Tafsir

And when it is said to them, “Believe as others believed” they say; “Shall we believe as fools believe?” Beware it is they who are the fools, but they know not. # Al Baqarah Verse 13

Allama Ibn e Jarir has narrated along with his evidences from Ibn e A’bbas رضي الله عنه that , By “Believe as others believed”, it refers to the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ). And what the hypocrites said. “As fools believe?“, they also mean the companions. It is referenced by Ibn e Maso’od.

A’llama Qurtubi writes that it means, A’bdullah bin salaam (رضي الله عنه ) and his friends.

In addition to quoting these sayings, A’llama siyuTi also writes, It is narrated by Ibne A’bbas in “Tareekh Ibn a’saakar” that it means Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat U’thman, aur Hazrat A’li radiallahu a’nhum ( رضي الله عنهم)

Therefore, it is inferred from this that the faith of the Companions is the standard (example) of true faith.

Surah Baqarah Ayat 11, 12, 13 Tarjuma

11. وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ

12. أَلَآ إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ

13. وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ ءَامِنُوا۟ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلنَّاسُ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَعْلَمُونَ

Aur jab un (logon) se kaha jaaye keh tum zameen mein fasad na karo (bisabab kufr ke aur logon ko imaan se rokkar) toh kehte hain keh hum toh islaah karne wale hain (hamara kaam fasad karna nahi hai. ALLAH ta’ala inke rad aur jawab mein farmata hai keh -) # Ayat 11

Bila shuba yehi log fasadi hain magar (iska) shau’or nahi rakhte. # Ayat 12

Aur jab inse kaha jata hai keh tum bhi aisa hi imaan le aao jaise yeh (Ashaab e Nabi) imaan laaye ain toh kehte hain keh kya hum aisa imaan laayein jaisa yeh bewaqooof imaan le aaye hain? (Yani hum in jaisa kaam nahi karsakte. ALLAH ta’ala ispar rad karte huwe farmata hai keh -) Khabardaar! bila shuba yehi log ehmaq hain lekin (is jahalat aur himaqat ka) ilm nahi rakhte.  # Ayat 13

Munafiqeen ka fasad kya tha?

Munafiqeen ka fasad yeh tha keh woh kuffar se ta’awun karke aur musalmano ke raaz unpar zahir karke jang ki aag bhadkate the aur fitno ko jagate the kyuke jang ke natije mein zameen lahlate huwe khet ujad jaate the, maal aur maweshi halak hojate the aur insano ka qatal hota tha. Ya unka fasad yeh tha keh woh zameen par ALLAH ki nafarmani karte the aur shariat ke sath istihza karte the aur iske natije mein zameen par khoon rezi hoti thi aur fitna fasad hota tha. Aur chunke munafiqeen ke dilon mein bimari thi, isliye woh apne fasad karne ko islah aur apni shar angezi ko khair guman karte the.

Iman laane ke liye Sahaba e kiraam ke Iman ka ma’yaar hona

Allama Ibn e Jarir ne apni sanad ke sath Hazrat Ibn e A’bbas radiallahu an’huma se riwayat kiya hai keh “Jis tarah aur log imaan laaye hain” isse murad Ashaab e Rasool (ﷺ) hain. Aur munafiqeen ne jo kaha, “Jis tarah bewaqoof imaan laaye hain” isse unki murad bhi Ashaab e Rasool ﷺ hain. Yeh Hazrat Ibn e Maso’od رضي الله عنه se marwi hai.

A’llama Qurtubi ne likha hai keh isse Hazrat A’bdullah bin salaam aur unke Ash’aab murad hain.

A’llama siyuTi ne in aqwaal ko naqal karne ke alawa yeh bhi likha hai keh, “Tareekh Ibn a’saakar” mein hazrat Ibne A’bbas radiallahu a’nhuma se riwayat hai keh isse murad Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat U’thman, aur Hazrat A’li radiallahu a’nhum hain.

In tafaseer se maloom huwa ke imaan laane ke liye sahaba e kiraam ka imaan ma’yaar hai.
